Unfortunately, the elevator also stopped working into our stay so we were forced to climb up and down the 7 stories. Elevator cards didn't work well and had to be changed out several times. The elevator opens directly into the room and that was weird and unnerving but ultimately was no big issue. The marble floor hurt to walk on but after our 4th day/night of having the heat on became bearable. We were on the top floor (7, aka "The Penthouse") which I don't think had been rented in some time. I should have cancelled then but rooms were outrageous the week we were planning to be there so I agreed to the the extra $35 a night and hoped for the best. The booking website allowed four of us but the Windsor insisted we had booked a room for three people (I had confirmation for four) many emails between the Windsor and us and between the booking company and us and we were forced to "upgrade" for $35 per night to a larger room to accommodate the four of us. Hotels were very high priced at the start of the 2019 holiday season and we found the Windsor on a booking website (that in itself was an issue since I was booking for 4 people, two adults, two teens. So, if The Allen shape up the cleaning service, could offer simple serving of breakfast (or at least fresh coffe) in the building I would for sure add an extra star but for now 3 is all I could give.ġ.84km from downtown We booked it because of the price. Fortunately we found an excellent breakfast/brunch joint just around the corner, Dudley’s (see separate review). On the downside is also that The Allen don’t offer breakfast, fresh coffe etc. Using the same bath towels is one thing but constantly asking for toilet paper, water bottles, cups and coffe (instant) etc is not the service of a high(er) class hotel. The website said cleaning was included for stays longer than 5 days but we had to ask for, and remind, every day. We stayed 2 people in one room and 3 in the other. With the ambition I believe The Allen has, this should be the no 1 priority since check in is always the first impression. We had to wait for our check in since one of our rooms was not ready. But, we had a few things or situations which brings the overall grade down. Reception and staff was friendly and welcoming. The hotel itself including the rooms have a very good standard although the neighborhood seems a bit rough (at least for us). Hotel is located in LES close to Chinatown and Little Italy and has several train stations if you want to use the subway to Brooklyn or up town. 1.97km from downtown We had a family stay (6 people) at the Allen Hotel for six days.
